Festival-goers loved making beautiful vintage inspired clocks and cake stands from old records. A big attraction was our bicycle powered paint wheel and we also showed people how to create retro fashion collage for their records.
The word soon spread around the festival and on the second day we had queues of people of all ages wanting to create their works of art, many telling us it was one of the best things they had done at the festival.
We also took our beatsmobile which provided a solar powered music and DJ station, pumping out punk and new wave music for the Art School which had a ‘punk protest’ theme for their area. The car became a blank canvas for people who wanted to leave their mark by drawing and spraying graffiti art.
Soft Touch has worked at Leicester’s Summer Sundae festival and other small local festival’s on a regular basis, but this was a new venture and a trial to see if we might be able to generate income for our core work through festival workshops. Being part of a high profile national festival curated by a contemporary design guru has helped Soft Touch to raise our profile and reach new audiences for our work.
