YOUNG HEALTH CHAMPIONS GIVE SOFT TOUCH DIRECTORS A HEALTHY EATING LESSON

Soft Touch board members were treated to some gourmet delights at their recent AGM along with a lesson in sushi-making by the Well Cool volunteer group. The Well Cool project encourages young people living in New Parks to learn about creative ways of preparing healthy and nutritious food and spread positive health messages to local people.

The group are making big strides in their own learning and they have received lots of positive feedback on their recipes from residents in New Parks.  We thought it would  be a great idea to invite them to run a session for our own Management Board. The group prepared for the meeting with a masterclass in sushi –making from the chefs at Leicester’s Zucchero restaurant. They then gave the Soft Touch directors a lesson  in how to create and roll various types of sushi using vegetables and fish.

Erica said:  “We’ve really enjoyed learning about healthy food and showing the directors of Soft Touch what we’ve learnt.  We think it went well and a couple of the directors were showing promise by the end of our lesson!”

The Well Cool group has provided food tasting sessions all over New Parks and at city centre events.  Their healthy recipe cards are available on request. The group will be running further projects in New Parks through Soft Touch’s BIG-UP New Parks programme funded by the Big Lottery.
