Kaplan East Midlands is part of the much larger international Kaplan organisation. Founded in 1938 by Stanley Kaplan, it is best known within the UK for training accountants and lawyers. Kaplan East Midlands provides exam-focused training for ACA, ACCA , CIMA and AAT professional examinations.
Kaplan East Midlands has established a deserved reputation over recent years as Kaplan’s top UK fundraiser, raising more than £22,000 in the last four years for causes including Rainbows Hospice in Loughborough and, more recently, Edgar’s Gift, a Leicester-based charity supporting terminally ill young people.
The focus of much of this community-based attitude can be seen in the annual fund raising event undertaken within the UK, focused on a challenging trek through the Welsh mountains. Half of any money raised goes to Kaplan’s national charity, The Helena Kennedy Foundation. The beneficiaries of the remaining half are chosen by individual Kaplan centres around the UK, whose choice reflects the opinions of the local staff and we are delighted that Soft Touch Arts has been selected by staff in the East Midlands.Throughout the Kaplan organisation there is a strong emphasis on corporate social responsibility and Kaplan allow every employee to take 2 paid days a year off work to volunteer for any project they choose within the community. Kaplan East Midlands already supports Soft Touch Arts through this scheme – Kaplan employee Kevin Hudson acts as Treasurer for the Soft Touch Arts Management Board and Richard Poole, Kaplan East Midlands Centre Head, has recently offered to provide free interview and CV writing classes for young people. Kaplan East Midlands also provides free meeting room facilities for local voluntary sector organisations, and donates surplus computer equipment for use by similar organisations.
