Stunning new artwork commissioned for New Walk restaurant

Budding teenage artist Liam Burt has created a stunning large-scale artwork for city centre restaurant The White Peacock.

The work, which is a paper stencil in white, will be on permanent display in the restaurant in a prominent position on the main staircase.

Liam’s work, which is being developed and supported by Soft Touch Arts, is a one-off bespoke creation commissioned by the restaurant’s chef patron Phil Sharpe.
Phil said, “We were looking for original artwork created by a local artist for to decorate the restaurant with, and this partnership with Liam and Soft Touch Arts seemed the perfect solution. In addition to it being by a local artist, we are encouraging Liam to pursue art as a career.”
Soft Touch Arts has been working with Liam for over four years after he was referred by his school, Willowbrook.

Kieran Walsh from Soft Touch Arts said “Art is a key means of self expression for young people, and at Soft Touch we are working with budding artists like Liam to develop their creative skills but also encourage a career in the arts. When we found out that Phil was looking for an original piece of work by a local artist, this seemed a perfect opportunity.”

Liam said “Working with Soft Touch has increased my confidence generally and has also given me a reason to get out of the house, which has helped me through my depression. It has also been a great way to meet people.”
