Soft Touch went to space

On Wednesday the 29th of July 2015, young people came together for an out of this world project!

The first day took off with the young people taking part in a challenger mission, where they had to be different characters to complete the challenge. When they returned to the working space, they were greeted by Soft Touch staff and were given the brief – a sculpture!

With the brief given to them, the young people then were able to browse the equipment for inspiration, the equipment was sourced from donated electronics such as old computers, phones, play stations amongst many other things as well as dolls, trolls and even some umbrellas!

The young people were then asked to draw their ideas, there was no guideline to what they had to make and within minutes their imaginations were running wild and unique ideas were being put into action.

Finally, it was time to start making! Armed with screw drivers, glue guns and many other tools; the young people began to take apart the electronics and the individual sculptures began to come to life.

With plenty of different stations, the young people were able to create pretty much anything they wanted.

Along with having fun, they also were exposed to new skills such as spray painting, stencilling and many more!

Not only were they able to create sculptures, but they were also given tours around the space centre which gave them a chance to be inspired as well as learn more about space.
